About Me
Paul Walters, Founder and Principal of Walters Leadership Institute
Born in New Hampshire and raised in small-town Iowa, my journey has taken me across the globe, shaping my perspective and fueling my passion for leadership and management development. After completing my undergraduate studies at St. John's University in Minnesota and earning a master's degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, I spent a decade leading teams in the nonprofit sector, working in the U.S. and emerging markets across Central America, Africa, and Asia.
My professional path led me to consulting, where I've spent the last eight and a half years working with Gallup, Deloitte, and CFAR Consulting and Coaching. During this time, I’ve had the privilege of working with leaders and teams in a wide range of sectors—from technology and pharmaceuticals to manufacturing and nonprofits. My work has taken me around the world, from the U.S. to the UK, Singapore, India, Australia, and beyond.

A Passion for Better Workplaces
What drives me is more than just a career; it’s a deep-rooted passion for creating better workplaces. I firmly believe that when organizations take care of their employees—treating them with respect, recognizing their contributions, and providing the tools and environment they need to thrive—performance naturally follows. This philosophy isn’t just a part of my job; it’s a core part of who I am.
A Trusted Advisor and Collaborative Partner
At Walters Leadership Institute, I combine this passion with a collaborative and empathetic approach. My clients see me as a trusted advisor who works in lockstep with them, developing clear strategies and approaches that align with their goals. I’m dedicated to understanding their unique challenges and guiding them through solutions that drive meaningful change. While I prioritize my clients’ best interests, I’m also unafraid to push back and challenge them when necessary—always with integrity and honesty.

Certified Expertise in Leadership Development
I’m an International Coaching Federation certified coach, and I bring a strengths-based approach to my work, complemented by certifications in CliftonStrengths (formerly called StrengthsFinder), Predictive Index, Hogan Assessment, and Deloitte’s Business Chemistry. I’ve shared my insights through keynotes, and group talks (i.e. at Columbia University), and have been recognized as a Deloitte certified faculty member.

A Global Perspective and Lifelong Learning
Outside of work, I’m someone who values staying active, both physically and mentally. I love to travel, explore new places, and keep myself informed on global issues through regular reading of The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, The Leadership Quarterly, and Foreign Affairs. With a background in international development, I consider myself a global citizen, always looking to understand and engage with the world around me.
Experience and Dedication That Make a Difference
What sets me apart is the breadth and depth of my experience, and while I’m confident in my abilities, I approach each new challenge knowing there is always more to learn. My work is not just about coaching or consulting—it’s about making a real difference in the lives of the people and organizations I serve.
